for crossing the timing mats at the end of each segment (swim/bike/run)
and for the return of the ChampionChip band immediately following the
race. Kale Running timing staff and race volunteers will be at the
finish line to assist you. Failure to return this chip will result in a $35 chip return charge!
Parking:
Some parking will be provided at Bull Run
Elementary School, located across the street from the Virginia Run
Community Center (on Rt. 29). We also suggest parking along the sides of
Rt. 29. Since the race takes place on a Sunday, we must be careful and
respectful of church parking.
Race Numbers:
You are provided with three race numbers in your race packet that you
are required to display during the event.
1) The bicycle frame number MUST be attached to your bike. This race
number MUST be clearly visible from both sides of the bike.
2) A small PEEL AND STICK helmet number (if available) MUST be worn on
the front of your bike helmet. This is for race officials and
photographers.
3) The run number MUST be displayed during the entire run segment on the
front of your body, not the side or back! Pin your run number to your
shirt, swimsuit, or race belt with the safety pins!
4) Remember You MUST wear your ChampionChip on either ankle for the
entire race! No chip No time!
Body Marking:
Body marking will take place starting at
5:15 a.m. on Sunday morning at the entrance to the transition area. Be
sure that the volunteer who marks you also writes your age on the back
of one calf.
Transition Area Access:
The Transition Area will open up at 5:15
a.m. Sunday morning. Only athletes who are body marked will be allowed
access to the Transition Area on Sunday. You must have your bike frame
number attached to your bicycle before you are permitted to bring your
bike into the Transition area. Following the race, you will be allowed
access to the Transition area to reclaim your gear but only after the
last athlete has started the run. All bikes and gear should be removed
from the transition area by 10:00 a.m. After 10:00 a.m., we cannot be
responsible for your gear.
Transition Area Conduct:
For safety reasons, during the race, you
are not permitted to ride your bike into or out of the Transition area.
You must walk/run your bike to the “Bike Start” where you will then be
allowed to mount you bike. Please watch out for other athletes as you
move through the Transition area and follow the instructions of race
officials and volunteers. All race gear MUST be stowed neatly under your
bike space or adjacent to it. You must know the course and flow of
traffic in the Transition area.
Swim Cap:
The official swim cap found in your race
packet MUST be worn during the entire swim. Do NOT trade your swim cap
with another athlete. Do NOT forget your cap on race morning! Failure to
start in the correct swim will result in a DQ from the race.
Wetsuits:
Wetsuits will be permitted for this race as average pool temperatures
are between 65-72 degrees. In 2006, the pool temperature was 68 degrees.
Swim Start:
This will be an "outdoor" snake pool
swim. Odd # participants will begin at one end of the pool and Even #'s
on the opposite end. Swimmers will be spread between 10-15 seconds apart
and you will swim up and back in each lane, go under the lane rope and
repeat until you've completed 10 laps. *Important Passing
Rule: There is bound to be some
congestion during the swim, which is natural in all triathlons. If "you"
need to pass someone in front of you, touch their feet to let them know
and you can either go around them or they should let you pass when you
reach the wall. If "your" feet are tagged, please allow the swimmer to
get by you. To see a map and more detailed information,
Estimated
Swim Start Information: Each
participant will have "one"
and only "one"
opportunity to change their estimated swim time by May 1, 2008. The race directors and timing company will not have time
to change everyone's estimated times more than once. We suggest going to
a local pool and timing yourself for 10 lengths of the pool (250 meters)
at your race pace and using that as your estimate. Therefore, no one
will be allowed to change their swim time after May 1 and you can only
change it once! Please e-mail Shandra at:
shandra@finswheelsfeet.com
to update your swim time.
Bike Course:
The bike course consists of two 6 mile
loops starting and ending at the Virginia Run Community Center. To see a
map and more detailed information,
Run Course:
The run course is an “out-and-back” 5k. An aid station will be provided
at mile 1.5 providing cold Hammer Heed and water. Please don’t throw cups
on the ground but try to throw them in the trashcans. To see a map and
more detailed information,
Race Finish:
All Official individual finishers will receive a custom finisher’s
medal. All finish times will be posted at the awards areas. As for the
awards, we ask that you have, if possible, someone to collect your award
should you be unable to attend.
Dropping Out:
If you drop out of the race for any reason, it is imperative that you
notify a race official immediately and return your ChampionChip band to
an official and ask them to return it to the Finish line area Staff. For
your safety, always check with the medical tent before you leave the
area.
Timing and Results:
Official race results will be posted
prior to the Awards presentation. Please report any discrepancy to a
race official PRIOR to the start of the awards presentation. Athletes
who do not wear their ChampionChip band during the entire event will not
be scored and will not receive a finish time. Full results and splits
will be available on our web site at
www.finswheelsfeet.com.
Medical:
The race provides comprehensive medical
care for all official participants during the event. The medical team is
prepared to treat for dehydration, minor injuries, and will assist
emergency medical services in transporting athletes with any major
injuries to the Fair Oaks/Fairfax Hospital. The biggest risk to athletes
is the potential of heat-related injuries due to inadequate hydration
prior to and during the event. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids
throughout the race weekend and during the race.
Course Safety:
Because the Virginia Run Sprint Triathlon
is staged within an urban setting, it is impossible to close the entire
course to vehicular traffic. All participants must be prepared to
encounter vehicular traffic during the course of the event. Please be
aware of your surrounding, obey the instructions of the traffic control
officers and volunteers and be considerate of others while competing.
Never just ride with your head down! Be aware!
Awards Party:
The Awards Party begins as soon as you
cross the finish line! Be sure to be a part of it! Massages, raffle
prizes, great food, and music will be provided! All bikes must be
removed from the Transition Area by 11:00 a.m.
Awards Presentation:
The Awards Presentation will begin
between 9:00-10:00 a.m. The top 3 overall men and women will receive
awards as well as the top 3 finishers in each age-group category. If you
need to leave early, please make arrangements for someone to pick-up
your award.
Be safe and have a great race!
